Abdulahad Farooq
Sh. Abdulahad grew up in Calgary Canada. In the eight grade his parents enrolled him in a Tahfeez program where he completed Hifdh (memorization of Quran) in a year and a half while maintaining full time academics. Since 2007 he has been leading Taraweeh prayers in Ramadan. Upon Graduating high school his passion for learning Islam led him to pursue full time Islamic Studies in the city of the Prophet Muhammad SW. His parents, teachers and mentors were influential and encouraged him to take this decision.
In 2012, he went to the blessed city of Madinah and started his formal post secondary education at the Islamic University of Madinah. He completed the Arabic language program and then graduated from the college of Sharia specializing in comparative Fiqh and Usool Al Fiqh with distinction. Simultaneously he continued pursuing of traditional studies in Masjid an Nabwi. He has an Ijaza in Quran memorization in the mode of Hafs certified from the Prophet’s Mosque. He also had the opportunity to privately study traditional books and classical texts in Nahw, Hanafi Fiqh, Usool al Hadith, Hadith & Tafseer with numerous scholars of Madinah.
He returned to Calgary in 2018 and started working as guest Imam in multiple Islamic Centers in the city. He also worked as a full time time teacher at the Calgary Islamic School where he was in charge of middle school Islamic Studies.
In 2020, Sh. Abdulahad accepted a role of lead Imam and resident scholar with Muslim Association of Virginia. Over the past three years he has worked extensively in developing the Muslim community in Prince William County by providing religious education, spiritual counseling, youth mentorship, as well as introducing a wide range of social programs for families, New Muslims and youth. He has represented the Muslims community in multiple interfaith and outreach programs.
Sh. Abdulahad has a special interest in educating the community about Islam in a structured and formal method. For this reason he co-founded Manar Institue; an initiative to provide Islamic education by encompassing relevance and practicality to our youth in a class type environment while fostering Suhbah (companionship). His goal is to develop youth who are confident Muslims grounded in knowledge so they can become thriving members of our society.
